Progress isn't linear. It's a simple phrase but means so much. It means mistakes happen. Bad things happen. There will be shortcomings, relapses, disappointments, and everything else will still happen. And that's okay. Progress towards a better future, toward a better community, toward a better self are all wavelengths of ups and downs. The downs don't mean we aren't progressing toward our goals. It means we are human.
